PLEASE READ EACH PARAGRAPH AS THEY ALL CONTAIN VITAL INFORMATION! REALLY!! THEY DO!!
These nucs are the perfect starter for the beginning beekeeper who already has his own equipment but just needs the bees to get going or for the experienced beekeeper who needs to fill a few hives.
Description: This 4 or 5 frame nucleus (nuc) includes a 2018 laying Italian/Carniolan queen, with 2-3 frames covered in brood and the rest of the frames covered in chemical-free bees. These bees will have had their mite treatment in late winter so when you receive them, you will be acquiring the second generation of bees after the mite treatment; thus, chemical-free bees! Each nuc may have either 4 frames of bees plus a feeder, or simply 5 frames of bees.
Marking the Queen: We will mark the queen if you add the marking cost to this order. Please see the bottom of the page to add a mark to your queen. If you do not add this additional item to this order, we will not mark your queen.
Pick Up Night Choices: As each pick-up night fills up, it will be removed from the list of options, so if you choose “I don’t know yet” concerning the evening you want to get your bees, please be aware that the choices listed today may not be available once you decide on an evening for pick-up. When choosing this option, please call or email us with your choice of pick-up night once you decide, and we will either verify that your choice is still available or advise you to choose another date. We are not responsible to contact you about which night you wish to receive your bees. You must have a reservation in order to pick up your bees, so please do not arrive at TBS expecting to get your bees unless you either 1) choose a date from the list provided when checking out or 2) have contacted us and received a confirmation after choosing “I don’t know yet”. Thanks for your understanding! FYI – We can generally load about 25 people per pick-up night. Our store is open late on pick-up nights!
Dates: We anticipate these nucs to be ready to go April through June but if we have an unusually cold or wet or hot winter and early spring, the timing could change. If we discover that we cannot accommodate your chosen pick up night, we will contact you as soon as possible and let you know of other options.
Email Address: Please include a valid email address as we must send you pick up instructions the week you come get your bees. You will receive a receipt in your inbox once you order your bees, so please watch for it. If you do not receive a receipt, we did not receive your order.
Shipping: We do not ship or deliver these nucs. All orders for nucs must be picked-up at Texas Bee Supply.
Care of the Hive: Once you take your bees home, please be prepared to feed them constantly for a minimum of two weeks. They will need this syrup to eat while they are locating nectar in their new home. Once you have moved them into a hive body and put a feeder in place, please allow the bees to rest for a few days before examining the hive. They have had a traumatic move, twice, and they need some adjustment time before you open up the top and go through the frames. The queen may stop laying for a while as she adjusts to the new location so don’t panic if you think she isn’t laying immediately. Give her a week or so and then recheck the hive for eggs. Also consider that it is possible for the queen to be injured or killed or even lost when the frames of the nuc are moved into a permanent box.
The nucs come in either a waxed cardboard or wooden box.
